Cassarino's-Federal Hill, Providence, RI

I went to Cassarino's with my family last week. It was a very enjoyable experience. We started off with a few cocktails and some wonderful appetizers. We got a Caprese salad that was very elegant, yet simple. The balsamic dressing was not overpowering and the greens were perfectly crisp. The only complaint i had about the dish was that there were only three slices of mozzarella-and four of us (easily solved by mooching a piece of everybody's). The other appetizer we got was a wonderfully done calamari (they called Calamari Cassarino). They served the calamari with roasted peppers, olives and capers (a pleasant break from the usual pepperoncini's and sweet balsamic vinegar preparations). Our table agreed that this calamari was probably the best any of us had ever had.
My uncle chose a bottle of red wine for us to enjoy for our dinners, but I can't, for the life of me, remember what it was (their wine menu is extensive with over 200 bottles).
For my main course I got one of the special's. I chose crab ravioli's served with pan-seared sea scallops in a spicy white wine creme sauce. The crab ravioli were just as I had anticipated. The meat was light and mildly sweet and the ravioli's were cooked just al dente. The pan-seared sea scallops were cooked to absolute perfection. They had a light crust to them and they had a nice sweet-salty taste to them. They added an alternate texture to the soft ravioli.
For dessert I had a cappuccino, and we all split a turtle cheesecake. The cheesecake was good, but it was agreed that it was not the highlight of the meal.

Overall the meal was excellent. Most everyone at our table agreed that the meal peaked at the appetizers. It did not diminish much going into the main course, but we all agreed that the appetizers were absolutely delightful. We will go back to Cassarino's, and we might just order appetizers because they all looked so good.
